craft in design

my master's thesis explores the potential of textile handicrafts in the context of communication design, a connection that has so far received little scientific attention.

textile handcrafts are often considered old-fashioned and conservative, qualities that are undesirable in the design field. however, in a time when tactility and haptics are becoming an increasing trend, the role of handcrafts as an analog, tactile, and emotional contrast to digital graphic styles is becoming increasingly relevant.

for the softcover version i created a booksleeve using embroidery, sewing, crochet and knitting in order to demonstrate the thesis content.
